Impasse

Impasse. Captive. Crisis. Virus. Haunting words all. This piece is meant to express how many of us might be feeling under lockdown during the current coronavirus world wide pandemic. It feels as though our very lives are locked down, even if for a good reason.

Obvious now are the cracks in our infrastructure, metaphorically and physically. It’s scary thinking about what comes next. More of the same? Better preparation? Hindsight wisdom perhaps? Who knows. There is an overpowering feeling of despair. Everything seems germy, gritty, dirty. Even the birds are leaving, in this composition at least. The birds always know, don’t they?

Impasse is just one of many artistic expressions of a difficult and challenging time. I’m not a fan of dated works, but I felt strongly about bringing this one to life. Also, on a side note, the flag is an earlier illustration of mine, all vector, shaded with gradient mesh in Illustrator, and manipulated to fit this composition.
