The Edge of Isolation
PHOTO ILLUSTRATION
Too often, women are widowed and subsequently don’t have much of a life after that. They can becomes shut-ins in front of the TV or other screens and it slowly becomes their entire life as if stuck inside some virtual-reality-like device. It’s often the closest thing to them, especially if children have moved away.
There is so much around her, but how alone is she? It’s daunting to go out alone. There are options, but since the Covid pandemic many people are more comfortable staying at home. There’s the outdoors, nature, wildlife, travel, yet she dwells on the edge of complete isolation. Here she sits in darkness with only the flickering light of a backlit screen, feet dangling, distracted from any hope as she descends into loneliness, and perhaps even an early death.

The Edge of Isolation appeared in the July 2024 issue of Living the Photo Artistic Life.
