Iris Meander
SURFACE DESIGN
Iris Meander has stylized Irises with leafy vines of varying colors just meandering along, with a texture of deep red petals underneath. The companion patterns show iris or iris petal shapes, some with tiny posies.
At first glance, it might seem like there are two colorways here. These illustrations and patterns all use the same palette, but with different weight and distribution of color. A sewist could mix and match, with various results. I always look to switch colors around to make it possible to go in different directions. In this case one could lean toward burgundy and gold, or toward pale blue and cream, and in either case use accents from the other to create more contrast or color interest. That’s what I would want to do. To me, that’s creative freedom.
