Kitchen Counter
ILLUSTRATION
This kitchen counter illustration was created for a promotional cookbook produced by Northern Ohio Illustrators Society (NOIS), and features some interesting elements.
The plant vines and ivy decoration are custom Illustrator brushes, created from some original vector illustration work. The drawing work was done in Illustrator from a scanned sketch and then taken over to Photoshop for rendering. Watercolor brushes were used for some of the textures. The fried chicken texture was a multi-layered illustration created in Photoshop, just for this piece.
The triadic color scheme creates an overall cool illustration, with some warmth and a touch of contrast.
The second image shows some early work, including the original ivy leaf and a curvy hanging piece of the ivy vine brush made from it in Illustrator, a window sketch with vector cafe curtains being drawn over, type finalists for the labels on the containers, a swatch of the texture created for the fried chicken, two straight snips of the Illustrator brushes for the ivy and a leafy vine (the plant), and the early vector drawings of the utensils.
UPDATE: This illustration has been made into a pattern collection. See it HERE.
